Onwards to Version 4

wanderlust preview

Hey guys! It’s 2012! I hope everyone had a great New Year. I was planning to do a huge summary post for 2011 but things got busy on my side, plus my pc and scanner all broke down prior to vacation and I only got a proper replacement just now. RULE OF THE UNIVERSE: EVERYTHING SHALL BREAK DURING FINALS.

Anyway, soon it’ll be Panagimpan’s second birthday and I’m thinking of doing a huge site overhaul before that date comes. And yes, that includes replacing the layout again even if I just changed it five months ago. There’s just something in it that irks me and the number of things I hate about it goes up whenever I look at it. Now I can’t bear to stare at it for more than ten seconds without cringing.

And that is a very bad sign. A very very bad sign.

Version 4: wanderlust will be in white, grey, and black (mostly grey and white). With subtler textures, less colors, and more focus on the portfolio aspect of the site. I’m also planing on changing the gallery scripts into something that’ll show a short artist’s statement when viewed. The site logo will also be changed and several stuff will be removed once the new layout is up.

Ah~ so much work to do! Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish everything before things get busy again!

Gah! I hate being sick. Bleagh. It took me long to finish this because I can’t spend more than 10 mins sitting upright (or staring at my laptop) without feeling woozy. I was hoping to color this directly after scanning to make things faster but the lines got messed up in a way that level adjustment can’t fix it so I have to re-draw everything from scratch. OTL, double work. I need to make my lines cleaner next time.

I’m trying to finish as much work as possible this week so I can focus on other midterm stuff during the long weekend. Let’s hope this cold will stop bothering me so I could work on stuff I should be working on especially the ones I have to do on a computer. It still have to write a cleaned-up version of the game’s story. //dies.

Requiem

Their dreams, their tears, their blood…

Never forget those who have fallen in our search for victory.

‎Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.

Work Stats:

Medium: Draft & Colors – Photoshop; Line work – SAI

Hours: ~10+ hours

The conceptualization process for this piece went something like this: OH, HEY~ I wanna do a fan art for RO and coincidentally, LU’s holding a fan art contest! THIS. IS. FATE → Quest for Victory is the theme. Maybe I should do something like a whole party spamming skills on poor Ifrit… nah, too common  → Something solemn? and dark! Ooooh~ I want ruins and enemies, booyeah! → after approximately 10 hours of rendering → …it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to look ._.

In the end, I removed half the stuff I wanted to put in the final image and settled for this. I initially wanted to do something with the characters all looking like they’re about to head to battle but that’s too common given the theme! I thought, victory isn’t always about winning, or charging head first and spamming with skills (even though that’s what I do in RO because my High Priest is the boss, yeah!) and sacrifices have to be made most of the time. That is what Requiem is all about: a remembrance for those who fell.

Obviously, 90% of the wall of text I wrote above doesn’t really apply in RO because games have this awesome shit called “respawn”. XD

On another note, I’m not entirely fond of this. To be honest, I did a couple of mistakes here and there while doing this piece, and some of them are so blatantly obvious that your screen will slap you in the face if you miss those! I enjoyed painting the sash, though. It looks so shiny!

I think to some degree I still like this. But over all? 60/40. Twenty points definitely goes to the humongous fail at anatomy and that awkward posture. XD

Creatively burnt-out

Barely two weeks until the deadline. Ahahaha. I’m almost done with it anyway so no rush… although I still have to fix the background and I have to catch up on the votes if I want to win. I’ll most likely finish this by Wednesday.  :P

On another note, I feel so creatively burnt-out right now. I think it started sometime around finals last school year? I really feel like I can’t do something decent right now even though I wanted to do something. It’s extremely frustrating, and I need a change of pace…  probably something that involves me going somewhere that’s not “dorm” or “home” just so I could wake those creativity bots in my head? Even writing just wouldn’t cut it. I wrote the premise of the game we’re doing for our thesis, and I can tell even with my eyes closed that it sucks and reads like the author wrote it under the influence of crack, lol.

Gah, I hate feeling like this. Somebody slap me. :(

For the fallen

RO FAN AAAAART~! This is the draft for the LU! Live fan art contest I mentioned in my previous post. Since this is fan art, I took the liberty of changing the Arch Bishop’s design because I find it annoying, lol. I prefer the High Priest’s design (red is such a pretty color ♥) over the AB’s but it was already too late when I noticed my mistake, so to hell with preferences! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
